April

Week One - Easter

Craft Ideas:

  • "Easter Eggs " - hard boil eggs and allow the child to paint them with paints (an alternative to eggs could be oval shaped wood pieces or Styrofoam).
  • "Hunt Bucket " - have the child decorate an ice cream pail with fabric, paper peices, sequins, etc. To be used in an Easter egg hunt.
  • "Stained Glass Easter Egg" - cut out a large egg shape form a piece of white paper. Cut up pieces of different coloured tissue paper. Allow the child to glue the tissue paper onto the egg to make it look like stained glass.

Song Ideas:

  • "Eight Little Bunnies " - "There were eight little bunnies sitting on a hill, eight little bunnies were oh-so still. They sniffed the air and one hopped away, how many bunnies were left to play"? ( continue the song counting down to zero. Can be done as a finger play as well).
  • "I'm a Little Chickie" - (to the tune of I'm a Little Teapot): "I'm a little chickie, ready to hatch. (crouch down into an egg) Pecking at my shell, ready to hatch (making a pecking and scratching motion) When I crack it open I'll jump right out (jump up) fluff up my feathers. Cheap, cheap I'll shout."

Book Ideas:

  • "Easter Surprises " - By: JMelissa Tyrrell
  • "The Easter Egg Farm " - By:Mary J. Auch
  • "Spot's First Easter " - By: Eric Hill
  • "Little Bunny's Easter Egg Surprise " - By: Susan Hood
  • "Even an Easter Bunny Needs Treats" By: Amye Roseburg

Game Ideas:

  • "Easter Egg Hunt" - hide the Easter eggs the child made along with some candy and chocolates. Have the child use his Hunt Bucket that was made as a craft.
  • "Easter Shake "- put small objects(blocks, rice, Smarties, beads, etc.) into a large plastic egg. Allow the child to shake the egg and ask questions about what is inside. After a few questions allow them to make a guess of what is inside.
  • "Pin the Tail on the Easter Bunny" - classic Pin the Tail on the Donkey Make a large bunny out of construction paper or other available resources. Have a tail made out of felt and cotton balls or other materials; be sure to put sticky tack on the end. Blindfold the child (depending on the child) and direct them towards the bunny. See where they pin the tail.
